2024  BIT International Summer Programs

 Introduction 

In recent years, Beijing Institute of Technology successfully held on-campus and online programs in winter and summer, with more than 500 students each year. In 2024, BIT will offer a series of on-campus summer programs that match your interest in areas of STEM, arts and management.

  • Program 1: Hands-on Learning for Emerging Technologies in Electronics Engineering

Specifically designed for students with an engineering background. BIT provides lectures and laboratory works in cutting-edge areas such as the Artificial Intelligence of Things, Wireless Communications & Microwave, Smart Vehicles, along with Chinese language and culture practices.

Topics: Internet of Things (IoT) and AI Integration, Digital Design and Software-Defined Radio (SDR), Project-Based Learning in the field of Emerging Technologies, Chinese Language and Culture, Culture Tours

  •  Program 2: Future Decarbonizing Technology and Green Energy

Specifically designed for students with an engineering background. BIT provides lectures and laboratory works in the domains of Green Energy storage and Decarbonizing Technology Application for example, the hydrogen energy, biomass energy, electrochemical energy, thermal energy etc., along with Chinese language and culture practices.

  • Program 3: Emerging Technologies in Materials for Renewable Energy

The primary purpose of this summer school is to provide students with a comprehensive exploration of materials science and engineering in the field of renewable and sustainable energy. Participants will develop a well-rounded grasp of fundamental concepts and practical applications of the current electrochemistry, advanced batteries, hydrogen energy devices, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and photovoltaic devices by actively engaging in lectures and laboratory sessions.

  • Program 4: Aesthetics of Traditional Chinese Culture and Classical Chinese Humanities(Liangxiang Campus)

Join the BIT community this summer to gain new perspectives on traditional Chinese culture through a variety of courses in art practice, art appreciation, literature, philosophy and so much more. Thriving in a culturally diverse society, you'll grow a deeper understanding on Chinese culture and humanities, and develop your own creativity. This program has been designed to expand your mind, inspire curiosity, and facilitate discovery.

Topics: Guqin Appreciation (Chinese plucked string instrument), Ikebana, Tea Ceremony, Incense Appreciation, Experience of Chinese Art and Literature, Stories Behind Chinese Characters, Appreciation of Chinese Poetry, Overview of Ancient Chinese Philosophy, Chinese Etiquette Culture, Chinese Science Fictions

  • Program 5: Management and Innovation

The program will provide you with valuable economic and management insights and skills in an intensive summer session. You will gain a solid grounding in the fundamental principles of international trade and entrepreneurship, and apply your new knowledge to case studies based on real-world scenarios. In this program, conceptual and practical knowledge will be developed through analysis at both macro and micro levels.

  • Program 6: Chinese Kung fu

This program is targeted toward teenagers looking to experience 800 year-old ancient sports and improve their Tai chi level. Directed by professional coach, world Tai chi champion, Huifang QIU, the program will give technical and tactical instructions and provide an opportunity to play with and against other top players. Incorporating movements, breathing exercises and meditation, Tai chi can improve your posture, breathing, concentration, and inner peace. By learning Tai chi in China, you can also gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and philosophy.

  • Program 7: Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice

Open to anyone interested in learning Mandarin and exploring the Chinese way of life. You will study alongside peers from various cultural and academic backgrounds and gain firsthand experience of Chinese culture.

Topics:Spoken Chinese, Cultural Sharing, Communicative Chinese, Kungfu Experience, Chinese Cuisine, Chinese Calligraphy, Culture Tours

Application Information

1.Duration: June 30 – July 27, 2024

2.Credits: 4 credits

3. Program fee:

  Program 1: Hands-on Learning for Emerging Technologies in Electronics Engineering

  Program 2: Future Decarbonizing Technology and Green Energy

  Program 3:Emerging Technologies in Materials for Renewable Energy

  •  CNY 8000 for 4 weeks ≈ USD 1100

  •  Free for students from partner universities with limited number

 Program 4:Aesthetics of Traditional Chinese Culture and Classical Chinese Humanities

 Program 5 :Management and Innovation

 Program 6 :Chinese Kung fu

 Program 7: BIT Chinese Language and Multicultural Practice

  •  CNY 6000 for 4 weeks ≈ USD 800

  •  Free for students from partner universities with limited number

Tips: The fee includes tuition, on-campus accommodation, teaching materials, insurance and culture tours. Costs for lab works and company visits will be calculated and charged separately.

4. Qualification

  • Non-Chinese citizen

  • English proficiency: IELTS ≥ 6.0 or TOEFL ≥ 85 or equivalent (waived for native English speakers)

(1)Program 1 Hands-on Learning for Emerging Technologies in Electronics Engineering :

  • prefer students with engineering related background

(2)Program 2 Future Decarbonizing Technology and Green Energy: 

  • prefer students with engineering related background

(3)Program 3 Emerging Technologies in Materials for Renewable Energy: 

  • prefer students with chemistry related background

Nomination from partner universities is necessary.

Required Documents

Visa

Students admitted to the on-campus programs must apply for a X2 visa (using electronic DQ form) at the Chinese embassy or consulate, using the admission letter provided by BIT.

1. From Beijing Capital International Airport

(1) By Airport Bus: take Airport Bus of route No.4 to Friendship hotel. Walk westward about 500 meters along the road. The campus is on the opposite side of the road.

(2) By Taxi: go to the taxi station and queue for the authorized taxi. Before you leave for China, please print the address of BIT in Chinese "北京市海淀区 中关村南大街5号  北京理工大学留学生中心(14号楼)" and show this to the driver when you take a taxi at the airport so that the driver will know where to go.

(3) By SUBWAY: Airport express to Dong Zhi Men and transfer to Line 2, to Xi Zhi Men, transfer to Line 4 to Wei Gong Cun Station, A Exit. 

2. From Beijing Railway Station

(1)Take bus line #103 to Beijing Zoo. From Beijing Zoo, take bus line 332 to Academy of Agriculture. BIT campus locates on the opposite side of the road.

(2)Take Subway route: Line 2 to Xi-zhi-men then transfer to Line 4 to Wei Gong Cun Station, A Exit. 

3. From Beijing Railway Western Station:

(1)Take bus line #320 or line #T6 to Academy of Agriculture. BIT campus locates on the opposite of the road.

(2)Take Subway route Line 9 to National Library to Line 4 Wei Gong Cun Station, A Exit.

4. From Beijing South Railway Station:

Take Subway route: Line 4 to Wei Gong Cun Station, A Exit.

Student Card

Students will receive a card after arriving at BIT and need to top-up it then to purchase at the canteen. In addition, the main gate of dormitory is equipped with access control system for safety reason, so the card is also an access card to students dormitory.
